I'm a biomedical engineer that has a particular interest in neuroscience. I was first introduced to programming (C++) in my second year and then moved on to MATLAB in my third year of study. However due to the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic, I switched my thesis to a more challenging computational neuroscience project and that was when I was first exposed to machine learning. From there I realised the inseparable dependency between data science and computational neuroscience and so I began to study intensively on Python programming, machine/deep learning algorithms immediately after graduation from online sources.
Forward School was initially brought to my attention by the Skymind recruitment team during an interview. Seeing that I lack a software engineering/computer science degree, I believed the data science boot camp could greatly benefit my study on computation neuroscience in the future and the rest is history.
I found myself enjoying the real-world applications of data science the most. Before joining the boot camp, I came in strictly from a scientific perspective and was completely oblivious to its application on business insights and predictions. The boot camp has fundamentally broadened my horizon to say the least.
My capstone project was about heart failure prediction in which my model gathered a bunch of clinical indications in order to determine if a subject is afflicted with cardiovascular disease. The model was later deployed to both a web application and a mobile application.
I’m in the midst of looking for a data scientist role, it fundamentally gives me a confidence boost as I’m now more comfortable with my expertise on data science and I basically have much more to prove myself than ever.
